Survey on the application of the systemic constellation method

Over the last decades, we have seen that the systemic constellation method applied in organisations spread around the globe and became more and more commonly used among coaches, trainers, consultants, and other professionals in diverse businesses and organizational settings (1,2). The method is being used for team coaching, organizational transformation processes, leadership development, and stakeholder analyses, among others (3,4).

Since the systemic constellation method developed from practice it still predominately relies on practice-based learning and teaching (1,2). The professionals of the large, diverse, international community that formed itself throughout the last years, implement the method in various ways and combine it with other methods they are familiar with. A uniform definition of what the method entails and a standardised training protocol are lacking.

The first reason of this study is that we would like to gain insight in this international community and in the ways how they apply the method. We hope to be able to learn from it and to share insights and practices. In addition, the results of this study might help us to apply the method in a formal educational setting. In the absence of a uniform definition and a standardised protocol, along with limited insight in how and when professionals implement and use the method, it is difficult for the method to develop in an evidence-based way. Although the method is already successfully used in many settings, application of the method in a formal educational setting is difficult without this scientific base.

We will developed a digital questionnaire for professionals who use the method, in languages that are commonly spoken among these professionals: English, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch. The questionnaire will be administered to the international community of consultants, trainers, coaches, and facilitators via existing networks and via training institutes. If you are interested in the results of the study, you can contact me or leave your email address at the end of the questionnaire.

Details on the study protocol are publicly available at the Open Science Framework Registry.
